What is Sunday at SMBC like?

SMBC is a family of grace. That means we value four main aspects of worship each Sunday:

  1. Worship through Singing
  2. Worship through God’s Word
  3. Worship through Fellowship (encouraging time together)
  4. Worship Together

We typically sing four songs. Sometimes one less or more. We do this to praise God and exalt Jesus. We believe in singing songs that lift God up in truth, meaning, that what we sing is true according what the Bible teaches us. We sing old and new hymns, songs and hymns that were written by individuals, or even by churches, and songs and hymns that were written long ago or even recently. Our emphasis is to sing out in praise the truth of who God is.

We worship through God’s Word by teaching and preaching through books of the Bible one at a time so we can receive all that God has for us. At the end of our service, we have a quiet time of response to God. This allows each of us individually to spend a few moments with God responding to Him about what we just heard and received from Him through His Word.

We encourage fellowship. Whether it’s before the service starts, or after it ends, we have coffee available in the lobby and love to see people spending time encouraging one another through fellowship (talking with one another).

We believe it’s important to do all of this, worshipping, together. That is exactly what the church is – the gathering of believers. For this reason, we start out our Sunday morning with family worship altogether. We do not have separate classes or service for children during this time. We believe it is a very good thing for children to worship with their parents, and for families to worship together (a nursery is available on the lower level for moms to use as needed). Children are as much a part of our church family as they are your family. Do not be afraid of your children making too much noise in the service. We welcome them to be a part and to worship Jesus with us.

After the morning worship service, we have classes for children and adults. It’s like the traditional Sunday School, we just do it after the service instead of before, and call it Growth Classes. Our goal is that you’ll learn the Bible more resulting in personal and spiritual growth in your life.

Frequent Questions

On Sunday mornings after our worship service, we have a Sunday School class for children. This class time runs from about 11:40-12:15. Kids Sunday School is held in classrooms on the lower level. Kids will have fun in their classes and learn Bible lessons from trained and caring teachers who will teach them on their level.

At SMBC, we do invite people who support our mission to give as they feel led during our offering time, but we have no expectation for guests to give.

When entering our front entrance via Bridges Street Ext., you may park along either the right side adjacent the building, or to the left along the side of the building facing. There is a ramp along the side of the building for handicap access. There is parking available directly in front of the ramp.

When you come in the front doors, you will enter the foyer. On Sunday mornings there will be coffee prepared, please enjoy! The auditorium is straight ahead. Our Sunday School growth class follows the morning worship service, and also meets in the auditorium.

On Wednesday evenings, we have a Bible study and prayer time, which also meets in the auditorium.

Our services typically last approximately 60-75 minutes.

There is no dress code. Don’t feel that you need to dress a certain way to visit or fit in!
